FibreStrap, PPWR and recyclability
The overlooked component in packaging and fastening
Efforts to remove plastic often focus on boxes, inserts and protective materials. But cable ties, tapes, straps and other fixings also affect material use and sorting, whether they hold a pack together or attach banners and signage.
FibreStrap helps packaging teams replace an overlooked fossil-plastic component with a fibre-based alternative, supporting a more coherent material system.
The finished FibreStrap FS-A cable tie, including its locking head, is certified as technically recyclable in conventional paper recycling mills by PTS (Institut für Fasern & Papier, Germany). It was tested according to the Paper and Board Recyclability Laboratory Test Method and evaluated under the 4evergreen protocol. In the recycling process, the paper cord is recovered as fibre, while the locking head is separated out. Certificate available on request.
Scope
FibreStrap does not make a complete packaging solution PPWR-compliant on its own. Compliance depends on the full pack, its intended function, its material composition and the collection and recycling systems where it is used.

Can FibreStrap replace every plastic cable tie?
No single solution is suitable for every application. FibreStrap is primarily designed for temporary bundling, securing and attachment. Test it under the actual assembly, handling, transport and use conditions.
Is FibreStrap recyclable with paper packaging?
Yes. The finished FibreStrap FS-A cable tie, including its locking head, is certified as technically recyclable in conventional paper recycling mills. In the recycling process, the paper cord is recovered as fibre, while the locking head is separated out. Whether it can be collected together with a complete paper-based pack depends on the full pack and local collection and recycling requirements.
Is FibreStrap plastic-free?
FibreStrap is a predominantly renewable, fibre-based alternative to conventional fossil-plastic cable ties. The cord is paper-based, while the locking head contains a bio-based composite and a small metal clip. Detailed material composition is available on request.
Is it strong enough for transport packaging?
FibreStrap is available with tensile strength up to 110 N. Required strength depends on the product, number of attachment points, packaging design and distribution environment.
Can FibreStrap support PPWR preparation?
FibreStrap can help replace an overlooked fossil-plastic packaging component and support more coherent recyclable packaging design. Compliance must be evaluated for the complete packaging solution and the relevant economic operator.
